Well 2006 was a fantastic year for me. I completed my first year at UJ and look forward to doing the real Journalistic subjects this year. My Civic has been doing its rounds at recent Honda Racing Club events and I’m slowly but surely getting it modified…
I am a strong-spirited individual with a noteworthy opinion and I love to be in-the-know, especially when it comes to motoring. I visit a few websites regularly which provide me with high-quality pictures of brand new cars (I have approximately 32 000 images on my PC). My love for cars started before I could even speak and I'm sure my first words were "Toyota" or "Bee-Em-Dubloo". At the age of two I used to sit in the garden with my eyes shut and could accurately predict what was driving past (there's video proof) - although it's much more difficult nowadays because cars are so quiet...
My writing career has seen a transformation in 2006 where, at the beginning of the year, I was with Subaru as a freelancer. From there I became a founding member of Motor Marqueting Online, a small company that does online newsletters for car dealerships. Then, in August, I was given the go ahead to create a Student Motoring section within the APK Campus newspaper at UJ. The paper is going from strength to strength and we're about to re-launch under a new name, because we now serve all five campuses of the University of Johannesburg. Last year I joined MAX Power magazine as their freelance writer for Johannesburg! It’s an awesome publication with great content and good value for money, and the experience I gained through them will of course prove invaluable in the long run. However, and unfortunately, due to studying pressures, I was unable to continue writing for the Magazine. All my published work can be viewed in the Articles section.
My driving experiences are starting to build up rapidly, and some highlights include:
Besides cog-swapping and rubber-burning, I also enjoy taking photographs of cars. Go to the ellibrent.net pics section to see some of my photography. I enjoy editing car images using Image Manipulation Software - you will find some of them on the pics page - and a number of my designs have been published in a magazine. Also, as you can probably deduce, I am able to create websites - I am very computer literate - and I have successfully published and maintained three websites. I can also speak five languages, including English, Afrikaans, Zulu (basic), Xhosa (basic) and French (basic). I live in Sunninghill, Sandton, and I am within walking distance of Kyalami Race Track - there's nothing better than waking up to the Wesbank Super Series or the Altech Porsche Challenge racers buzzing around the circuit. I also attend the Bosal South Side Crew drag racing at Wesbank Raceway on a regular basis.
